After an alert involving the threat of a disconnect between the universe and the external reality, nearly all residents of Planet Perpetua were evacuated. See Reference #2, Space Station Evacuation.
Project Perpetua, also referred to as Planet Perpetua, was Mazer Labs' attempt at constructing a colony on an exoplanet. The general process involved the creative plan of constructing unfurnished offices and laboratories in space, and dropping these structures onto the planet, in which its surface is entirely comprised of water.
In order to construct a functional colony on an entirely ocean planet, habitable structures were constructed in space. Utilizing modules from the Mazer Labs Space Station, these structures were delivered to the surface of the planet, equipped with airlocks to prevent the mixture of Planet Perpetua's atmosphere into the structure, and mechanical supports to level the structure on the ocean floor.
These structures, which would house approximately 100 employees each, would serve a similar purpose to office/laboratory complexes on Earth. The benefits proposed by the organizers of this plan included the ability to experiment without the concerns of US federal law conflicting with the company's intentions, the ability to remotely maintain the Mazer Labs Space Station in the same reality, and the ability to harness the planet's powerful ocean for electricity in commercial use (see Reference #1).
Mazer Labs Research Division Zeta engineered a large, disk-shaped structure, designed for hydroelectric power generation. Around the structure would be entrances for the water to enter, and spin turbines in order to produce electricity. Unfortunately, due to the emergency evacuation notice, the structure was unfinished and was left in an orbit around the planet. Physicists predict the orbit has decayed and the structure has crashed onto the surface.
The following is a log of the evacuation messages and messages broadcast by employees of high authority to the colony on Planet Perpetua.
2001-02-15 17:53 PST, Dr. Koff in San Bernardino County: Attention to all employees, we are currently experiencing an issue regarding the nonvoxel ERC. While spatial connection to the universe is still established, we would advise you to prepare for a possible evacuation.
2001-02-15 20:32 PST, Dr. Clark on Perpetua: The emergency showers in the laboratory sectors are to be used only in the case of emergencies. Please… save bath time for when you are in your living quarters.
2001-02-16 01:33 PST, Dr. Koff in San Bernardino County: Attention to all employees, we are now under evacuation protocol. Help your coworkers in any way possible. Please find your way to the nearest portal in a calm manner. You will be transported to the Mazer Labs Space Station in our universe.
2001-02-16 02:30 PST, Dr. Koff in San Bernardino County: To anyone left on Planet Perpetua, you are at great risk of forever disconnecting from your home universe. Please find your way to the nearest portal. There will… ahem, may be a human to assist you.
2001-02-16 02:43 PST, Dr. Koff in San Bernardino County: If anybody is still there, the Mazer Labs Space Station is no longer safe. Remain in Perpetua, or enter a portal at your own risk. Injuries caused by Mazer Labs automated robots are not Mazer Labs' legal nor financial responsibility.
2001-02-16 03:54 PST, Dr. Koff in San Bernardino County: The Mazer Labs Space Station is now fully automated and beyond our control. To anyone remaining on Perpetua, we wish you the best of luck, from a reality well beyond ours.
All Mazer Labs ERC stations have lost contact of Planet Perpetua at 2001-02-14 04:04 PST. Only 2 employees were stranded on Perpetua, and their families' financial compensation, along with the delivery of the news of their missing family members, are pending at the time of writing.
